Dr. La Vera Brown received her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. She received her graduate degree from North Carolina A&T State University, and her undergraduate degree from North Carolina Central University. She is a National Board of Certified Counselors Fellowship recipient, National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor for the States of North Carolina and Virginia, as well as, a Board Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator.

She has worked extensively in the Guilford and Wake County Public Schools as a counseling professional.  Throughout her career of nearly twenty years, she has served as a community advocate, educator, and therapist for adolescents, children, and families.  Dr. Brown’s specialty area involves the development of school-based mental health programs in high-poverty schools.  Her mission is to serve as a leader in eliminating mental health care disparities for under-resourced children and adolescents.

As a clinical supervisor, Dr. Brown utilizes a theoretical framework that is grounded in integrative and developmental modalities. Her passion for supervision serves to cultivate the personal and professional growth of counselor trainees as they develop a stronger sense of self- and others, identify their motivations to help, and begin to establish greater autonomy across several domains of clinical practice including intervention skills competence, assessment techniques, individual differences, and professional ethics. As a core faculty member and clinical coordinator at Webster University, Dr. Brown looks forward to cultivating the growth and development of counselor candidates on their path of self-discovery as they pursue careers as community clinical, school, and college counselors.
